What Happens at the Free Evaluation
A relaxed half hour with the owner or a senior teacher, with plenty of time for your questions.
It also helps us get to know your child, so we can match them carefully with a teacher before lessons begin. You leave knowing where they would start, which books they would use and who they would be learning with.
Already playing? Nobody starts over. We hear what they know and place them at the level that fits.

Fun Lessons, Real Progress
Kids are more likely to practise when there’s something worth working toward. Younger students earn Music Points for completing musical goals and spend them at the Prize Wall. Older students choose favourite repertoire, join Piano Band or play keys in a Rock Band. Every book builds toward its exam, and concerts and Music Fest are there whenever they want a stage.
The goal is not to rush children through levels. It is to help each student feel proud of what they can do and excited about what comes next.

Age-appropriate levels designed for kids and teens.
The Academy Method is the structured teaching framework first developed by our founder, an ARCT-trained piano pedagogue, and refined through more than 40 years of teaching. It gives every student a clear next step while leaving room for the music they enjoy. Lessons balance enjoyable pieces with reading, technique, rhythm, ear training and theory, so students build skills that last.
Younger students learn through age-appropriate books, games and rewards; as they grow, they take more ownership over repertoire and goals.
The Academy Method for Piano
Six levels. One clear path. Then RCM.
Each level uses a carefully selected method book, supported by scales, sight reading and ear training, and ends with an Academy exam scored by an outside examiner.

A Family-Run Music School
Friendly, structured lessons that keep your child moving forward.
Founded by Joanne Parker in 1982, the Academy is still family-run. Her son Sean grew up here as a student, now runs the school, and still teaches, so the people making decisions about your child’s lessons are in the classrooms every week. Some of the parents signing up their kids today were signed up here as kids by his mother.
One in three of our teachers started here as students. They learned the Academy Method in these rooms before they taught it.
- The same teacher, day and time, every week. Someone who gets to know your child and guides their progress.
- We meet your child before choosing their teacher. At the Free Evaluation we pair them with someone who suits their age, goals and personality.
- Trained to teach kids and teens. Every teacher comes in at a high level on their instrument, RCM Level 8 or the top of the Academy Method, then goes through extensive training with our Teaching Manager, passes a written pedagogy exam and shadows a senior teacher before taking on students. Not everyone makes it through, and the workshops never stop.
- A whole team behind them. Every teacher works from the same Academy Method and can see your child’s lesson notes, so a makeup or extra-help lesson with another teacher picks up right where they left off.
Clear Pricing, Month to Month

per 30-minute weekly lesson, billed monthly, with a one-time $39 registration fee
Most four-lesson months are $144; months with five scheduled lessons are $180.
- No long-term contract. Tuition continues month to month. Cancel by the 15th to stop the next month’s tuition.
- Unlimited reschedules with only six hours’ notice. The lesson is banked and can be rebooked within 60 days.
- Free extra-help lessons before exams, concerts and Music Fest.
- Lessons six days a week, so the schedule works around your family.
- Everything in one app. Homework, schedule and messages to the teacher live in TeacherZone, so you always know what to practise.
- No piano at home? A keyboard is fine to start. One month of free keyboard rental with registration, then $20 per month with a $50 refundable deposit. When it is time to buy, we help you choose.
